Choosing the right list is not always easy, but there are some techniques you can use to make a list work well for you. It is not always wise to look for a list consisting of 'someone interested in working from home'. Often it may be better to select the TYPE of person you are looking for, and target that type.
Using the example above - if you select a list of people 'interested in working from home' that's what you get - and the only thing you can tell them about, or tell about them, is that one fact - they are interested in working from home. What if you try a list of people chosen by demographics? Well an obvious list would be parents, maybe home makers or house wives, maybe divorcees with children. All of these lists can be targeted easily. However, there is one big difference. You are no longer 'in the dark' selling only your products features, now you *know* something about the person you are advertising to, and *why* they might want to buy your product. Now you can write an email (and/or design a web page) that specifically targets the wants and needs of that person!
Take a look at the three email text examples below and see which grabs you:

These three examples illustrate the point. Example 1 can only talk about the product. It's fine if the person mailed has already thought about their financial situation, and decided that a home business is for them. Otherwise it fails. Examples 2 and 3 target particular groups. These may be people who have never considered a home business - but now it has been made relevant to them, and their current needs. They can see how it could benefit them, and are therefore perfectly targeted.
A home business opportunity is only one use for this technique. Any ad for any product can be made *much* more powerful by targeting the list and then addressing the ad to that target group specifically-
If you are aiming an ad for loans at students, you talk about getting through college, the things a student needs to hear. The same ad at young working adults talks about loans for cars and motorcycles - or aim exactly the same ad at married couples with kids and a house, and you are talking about home extensions or holiday homes. Never just say, 'Hey this is a great loan at low interest' - show them the benefit of the loan, what they can buy with it - and by targeting a particular group, you make 'what they can buy with it' relevant to them.
Think about your product. Think about the benefit it brings to particular demographic groups. Target that group with your email ad, and write *to that group* about things relevant to them - and watch your success rate soar!
